This decision was made by CA/Browser Forum members in order to improve the security of websites and their users. It is assumed that this measure will reduce the number of certificates that were issued, but abandoned by the owners for various reasons. Such certificates are potentially dangerous because they can be hacked and used by attackers for phishing or other manipulation of users’ data.
