What is a Virtual Private Server?

A Virtual Private Server (VPS/VDS) is a method of partitioning a physical server into multiple machines each one having the functionalities if running on its own dedicated server. A VPS is the Unix system that can run its own operating system and each system can be administered and rebooted independently. A Virtual Private Server administrator has root privileges for managing his servers, except for their hardware. Root access will grant you with complete control over your VPS account.
